Check-in delivery, SMS alerts, and push notifications are running normally
Getting started
SafetyCheck sends you a daily push notification asking “Are you ok?” at a time you choose. You respond with one tap to confirm you are safe. If you do not respond after the notification and three follow-up reminders (sent five minutes apart), SafetyCheck automatically sends an SMS and places a voice call to your designated emergency contact, including a link to your live GPS location.
The alert fires from our backend servers — no action is required from you, and it works even when the app is closed.
Download SafetyCheck from the App Store or Google Play
Complete onboarding — enter your name, phone number, and address
Add at least one emergency contact (name and mobile phone number)
Allow push notifications and location access when prompted
Set your preferred daily check-in time
Tap “I’m ok” on your first check-in to confirm everything works
Setup takes under 2 minutes.
Push notifications (required) — Delivers your daily check-in notification. Without this, check-ins cannot reach your device.
Location — Always / Background (required for full functionality) — Captures your GPS at the exact moment an alert fires, even when the app is closed. Location is only recorded at check-in events and during active alerts — never continuously tracked.
Location — While using (minimum) — GPS is only captured if the app is open at alert time.
Yes. Check-in notifications arrive on your lock screen regardless of app state. If you do not respond, the alert is triggered by our backend servers — not the app — so it fires even if the app is swiped away.
iOS: Enable Background App Refresh — Settings → General → Background App Refresh → SafetyCheck ON.
Open the SafetyCheck app and tap “I’m ok” as soon as possible. Three reminder notifications are sent five minutes apart before an alert fires. Responding to any of them cancels the alert.
Open the app and tap “I’m ok”. This marks the alert as resolved, stops live GPS sharing, and sends your contact a follow-up message confirming you are safe. We also recommend calling your contact directly to let them know it was a false alarm.
Android: Disable battery optimisation for SafetyCheck
Check your check-in time in Settings → Check-in schedule
If using Do Not Disturb, add SafetyCheck as an exception
Still not working? Contact support with your device model and OS version.
Free plan: Fixed daily check-in. Time and frequency cannot be customised.
Basic plan ($5.99/mo or $59.99/yr): Set any check-in time and frequency from every 1 hour to every 7 days in Settings → Check-in schedule.
Emergency contacts & alerts
Landline: Emergency contacts must have a mobile number capable of receiving SMS.
Phone off or no signal: Messages may be delayed until the contact’s phone is back online.
Country filtering: If your contact is in West Africa (Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal) or Ethiopia, alerts are sent via WhatsApp instead for more reliable delivery.
Incorrect number: Check Settings → Emergency contacts and verify the country code is included (e.g. +1, +44, +225).
Free plan: 1 emergency contact. Basic plan: Up to 3 emergency contacts. All are notified simultaneously when an alert fires. If a contact does not acknowledge the voice call, the system escalates to the next contact.
When an alert fires, your emergency contact receives a secure link to a live GPS tracking page that updates every 15 seconds for up to 2 hours. No app is required — it works in any mobile browser. If SafetyCheck is installed on the contact’s phone, the link opens a native map screen inside the app. The tracking session ends when you tap “I’m ok” or after 2 hours.
SMS: Reply STOP to any SafetyCheck SMS. WhatsApp: Reply STOP to any SafetyCheck WhatsApp message. Via the app: Settings → Emergency contacts → swipe to delete.
Emergency contacts who wish to be removed and cannot reach the app user can email [email protected].
Account & subscription
Open the app and tap any locked feature. The upgrade screen appears with Basic plan options: $5.99/month or $59.99/year. Payment is processed by Apple App Store or Google Play using your existing payment method.
iOS: Settings → your Apple ID → Subscriptions → SafetyCheck → Cancel subscription
Android: Google Play → Profile → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → SafetyCheck → Cancel
Your Basic features remain active until the end of the current billing period. Your account then reverts to the Free plan automatically.
Open SafetyCheck → tap any locked feature → tap “Restore purchases” at the bottom of the paywall screen. The app verifies your purchase with Apple or Google and restores your subscription immediately at no charge.
From the app: Settings → scroll to bottom → Delete account → Confirm. Data is deleted immediately.
By email: Email [email protected] with subject “SafetyCheck — Account deletion request” and your registered phone number. Completed within 30 days.
SafetyCheck uses your phone number as your unique identifier. Make sure you are entering the number used during onboarding, including the correct country code. Try uninstalling and reinstalling the app, then log in with the same number.
If you still cannot access your account, email [email protected] with your registered phone number.
