Summary: Safety Check collects your location, phone number, and emergency contact details solely to provide its safety monitoring service. We never sell your data, never use it for advertising, and only share it with the emergency contact you designate — and only during an active safety alert.

We collect only what is strictly necessary to provide the Safety Check service. Here is a complete list of every category of data we collect:
| Category | Data collected | Why we need it | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|---|
| Account data | Name, phone number, city, country, postal code | To identify you in emergency alerts sent to your contact | Contract performance |
| Emergency contact | Contact name and phone number | To call and SMS this person during a safety alert | Contract performance |
| Location data | GPS latitude and longitude (background access) Background location justification: Safety Check requires background location access to capture your last known GPS coordinates at the exact moment a safety alert is triggered, even when the app is closed. Without background access, your emergency contact would not receive your location if you are unable to open the app during an emergency. Location is only sampled at check-in events and during active alerts — never continuously. Live GPS tracking: When you miss a check-in and do not respond to reminders, SafetyCheck activates a live GPS session. Your device sends a location update every 15 seconds for up to 2 hours. These updates are stored securely and streamed to your emergency contact via a private, time-limited tracking link included in the alert SMS. The session ends automatically when you confirm you are safe, or after 2 hours. Live GPS tracking only activates on a missed check-in — never during normal app use. | To include your location in emergency alerts so your contact can find you | Explicit consent + contract |
| Device data | Device push token (FCM/APNs), platform (iOS/Android) | To deliver daily check-in notifications to your device | Contract performance |
| Diagnostics | Anonymous crash logs and app performance metrics | To detect and fix bugs | Legitimate interest |
| Live GPS session data | GPS coordinates (latitude, longitude, accuracy, speed) sent every 15 seconds during an active live tracking session | To share your real-time location with your emergency contact during a safety alert | Explicit consent + contract |
| Usage data | Check-in response history, timestamps, escalation events | To operate the check-in logic and provide audit history | Contract performance |
| Payment data | Subscription status only — no card numbers | Card details are held by Apple/Google, never by us | Contract performance |
